With SOS, the FGM Task Force now has a child protection project started, which is unique in Germany and Europe.  It focuses on the concrete protection of girls from a very specific violence: female genital mutilation.

In Germany alone, need up to 50,000 under-age girls are classified as endangered.  Up to 80% of these girls actually are subjected to the mutilation.  To protection, they could not count so far with few exceptions.

The experience of recent years have shown that people who have specific information about planned or have already become committed genital mutilation, often do not know whom they can turn to.  Even authorities and youth respond often uncertain and hesitant when girls at risk must be protected.<!--break-->

SOS FGM reacted in exactly this situation and now offers one-stop shop for

    * is that people who become aware of female genital mutilation: for them is the emergency number 01803 - SOS FGM (767 326) are available.  They ensure that quick and competent assistance is initiated, and each case is accompanied by consistent follow up.
    * Authorities, youth and professionals: SOS FGM offers both individual counseling in specific situations as well as specialized training throughout the country.  It's about a safe, prudent and protection-oriented handling of cases, the genital mutilation of the subject to permit.
    * become girls and women who are victims of female genital mutilation: the victims are least aware that they are usually entitled to compensation from the German government (under the Victims Compensation Act, OEG).  SOS FGM victims informed about their rights and helping them to make their claims.

This project is a milestone for the specific protection of children against serious violence and abuse and contributes to the realization of their fundamental rights to dignity, life and integrity.

"Socialized medicine", "death panels", "government mandated health care" . During the year long debate over health insurance reform, that worked to provide coverage for millions of Americans and stem rising insurance rates and global billing charges from medical providers, many political observers heard virtually all opponents (mostly conservatives and Republicans) of the legislation repeat ad nauseum those talking points.

You would think the veracity with which opponents fought a "government mandate" would mean they actually fucking mean it. Turns out, they don't.

Last week the Oklahoma legislature passed a series of bills that would mandate doctor's providing a legal medical procedure to precede said medical procedure with a vaginal ultrasound , you know so the women would have "all the information they need to make an informed decision" . Another bill also protects doctors from revealing all there is to know about the fetus, because the physician could have bad news like the fetus has severe deformations. Both were vetoed by the state's Democratic governor. Sadly, the legislature overrode that veto by a hefty margin to make these bills law.

If mandating an invasive ultrasound prior to a legal medical procedure isn't government mandated health care , then what is? It sure is fuck isn't me getting a cheaper premium on my Kaiser health care insurance. It sure is fuck isn't getting my son health care and free lunch at school.

Oklahoma's Republican dominated legislature ( and some Democratic members) has proven quick obviously that they don't care about women or women's rights. In my opinion, this bill is a mandate to rape women seeking a legal medical procedure. I am sick and livid.
